Ayurveda is a 3,000 year-old nature-based healing science that, like yoga, originated with knowledge revealed to the ancient rishis, or seers, of India. It has been practiced by yogis for thousands of years as a means to establish the mind-body balance necessary for the practice of postures, pranayama, and meditation. It is the world’s oldest medical system still in practice today and, like yoga, continues to adapt and evolve to encompass the discoveries of Western science and meet the needs of modern-day practitioners.

TriDosha Theory

Ayurveda teaches that the universe is composed of the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and space. These five elements, in turn, form the three doshas—vata, air and ether; pitta, fire and water; and kapha, water and earth. These three doshas are the foundation of ayurvedic healing as each being is born with his or her own unique combination of elements or doshas. When in balance, we experience the bliss and harmony of perfect health. Ayurveda provides us each a map to discovering our own unique path toward health and wholeness.
